1. Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)

IS 269 / IS 8112 / IS 12269

  • Most common cement
  • Used where early strength is needed

Sub-types

  • OPC 33 Grade
  • OPC 43 Grade
  • OPC 53 Grade

 

2. Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC)

IS 1489

  • Contains fly ash or calcined clay
  • Less heat of hydration
  • Better long-term durability
  • Most preferred for residential buildings

✅ Used in:
Houses, apartments, plastering, masonry

 

3. Portland Slag Cement (PSC)

IS 455

  • Made using blast furnace slag
  • High resistance to chemicals and corrosion

✅ Used in:
Coastal areas, marine works, sewage plants
(Recommended for cities like Mangalore)

 

4. Rapid Hardening Cement

  • Gains strength very quickly
  • Similar to OPC 53 but faster

✅ Used in:
Road repairs, urgent construction works

 

5. Sulphate Resisting Cement (SRC)

  • Low C₃A content
  • Resists sulphate attack

✅ Used in:
Foundations in sulphate-rich soil, coastal construction

 

6. Low Heat Cement

  • Generates less heat during hydration

✅ Used in:
Dams, large foundations, mass concrete structures

 

7. White Cement

  • Low iron content

✅ Used in:
Tiles fixing, decorative works, grouting

 

8. Colored Cement

  • White cement + pigments

✅ Used in:
Interior & exterior decorative finishes
